I don't know why we're dredging up an 8 year old post just to argue, but whatever. Mine went 25k and 12 years. When I changed it, it didn't look terrible. Just the usual cracking along where the tooth meets the belt.

The clutch is solid molded urethane, the belts are a composite of several materials encased in rubber, that can separate.

I wouldn't call it "usual". That's a sure sign of impending failure.

When I purchased my 944, the balance belt had failed.
The belts were 5 years old as far as I could tell.

The timing belt had the "about to fail" cracking on it when I folded it back on itself.

I'm going with the 3 year rule based on my driving methods. However, I am retensioning it with a Arnnworx 940X tool every time I take it out for a hard run (DE/track days etc)
