That is exactly the reason I'm not autocrossing this year. Two ring & pinion's in two years was enough for me. After the first I wasn't even launching hard. I need a break from thrashing my car. I weighed the cost vs reward factor and two grand for two championship trophies isn't worth it.

I have an S tranny with lsd that needs a ring & pinion if your intrested.

I talked to my friend Elliot, who was the guy with the rabbit GTI. He blew a CV joint, but the transmission was fine. Another GTI'er trailered the car back to his shop for him, and a new axle assembly is ready to go onto the car. Not quite three and a half hours, but it won't be out of commission for long.

Sorry I didn't get to go run with you guys at this one. I was out late drinking the night before. With as much carnage as went on there though, I'm kinda glad I didn't make it.....

Nice work guys!

Say......you guys interested in coming to IL and helping me with a trans swap? I'll be trading out my turbo trans for a newly acquired LSD trans. I'd then have a spare trans....hint, hint

Hmmm. There may be some real truth behind that statement. That's almost the same r&p ratio that I have had autocrossing. Any other listers out there experience similar r&p failures on cars that see a lot of autocross events?

This time the trans didn't give me the tell-tale whine like the last one did long before the detonation.

Have any more pics of the "beater" Andy? From the little bit I can see in that picture it doesn't look that bad.

"Spare" meaning "for sale!" I gotta recoup some of my cash outlay for the LSD trans!

Okay, I also blew my tranny this past weekend on the way home from an Autox. I only have an n/a, but still. This really burns me that a porsche of all cars has such a weak trans. I also do not abuse mine with clutch dumps etc. I want to contine autox, but if this is going to be an ongoing trend I may have to find another car for this.

Bummer, dude. We feel your pain. After rebuilding my trans, I vowed that I didn't want to do that again anytime soon. Not that it is all that difficult - it's just very time consuming and it's a very intense experience. It made me wonder how often I'd have to repeat the exercise if I did autocross the car. I didn't like the answer I came up with.

On the other hand - if you can afford to carry a spare at all times (as this does seem to be the weak link (after the timing belt)) it is a great car for this sort of thing. I can't afford it - so I don't do it. I do have a dedicated car for autocrosses and time trials. It's not a Porsche, but it is very fast and a lot of fun. I save my 944 for daily use in the warmer months of the year.

I guess what I'm getting at: if you have the choice, use a different car for autocross purposes (or be prepared to do a trans swap every few years).

Well, the other real issue with Crippler's trans is that it is having to deal with 35% more horsepower than what it was intended to handle.

forgot to change sig, I no longer have the car turbocharged, so it is just at stock horsepower. However the damage may have already been done by the turbo prior to this

I am at the point now of questioning myself as to whether I should keep it or sell it and get something that can handle autox and soome track days better. I don't have much money and can't aford to keep putting trannies in
