Default Wet rear floor

I had the passenger seat out of the car today to mount the brey-krause fire extinguisher mount and noticed a wet rear floor only on the passenger side. the floor mat was damp on that side and there was significant moisture in the carpet. no standing water, but damp none the less. any idea where to look for a leak? sunroof? window seal? hatch seal? any experience or insight would really be helpful.

thanks!

When I accidently left my sunroof cracked open during a rainstorm, that's where all the water went. I'd check that seal.

My sunroof seal was leaking a little and that's where the moisture ended up.

it looks like the vinyl inside the car near the passenger side rear corner of the sunroof is bunched up a little, probably from water soaking in. where do i get a new seal, and is it a straight forward job?

It's the battery box. Even a slight crack in a seam on the battery box will allow water to travel down a channel in the floor board and run into the right rear floor.

Remove the battery, sand down the battery tray, get a good quality seam sealer (like a waterproof sealer used for boats), coat the tray, repaint, problem solved.

Your other problem, if that in fact is the location of the leak, is that your DME and KLR are probably getting wet. Luckily in the early 944 the DME is under the dash below the steering wheel, not right in the path of the corroded battery box.

Probably one of the drain tubes from the sunroof is cracked or plugged, very unlikely it's the seal.

I'd check there before the battery tray, which in in the front. There are many old posts on how to fix this.

I would recommend all of the above suggestions, and here is one more. Check the overflow drain inside the need toward the gas tank, sometimes the tiny drain is pushed in by "cro-magnon" gas station attendants and when it rains, the waters dumps inside and runs down to drain by the floor by the right rear seat. All you have to do is pull up the drain and fold it around the rubber gasket. You also know there is a problem, if you occassionally smell gas.

I had the same problem with my S2, turned out to be the drain for the A/C which goes behind the radio down a rubber tube that connects to a hole with a grommet thingy at the end, the grommet wasn't seated in the properly and was leaking toward the passenger side, the water would collect in the rear passenger floor. If you've been using your A/C lately, that could be it. Not hard to check, just take out the screws for the center console and pull it back a couple of inches and you'll see the tube behind the radio.
