Default Third brake light stays on

After washing my car tonight, adjusting the FR wheel bearing and cleaning the cap and rotor (just to honest about everythign I did) the third (high-mount) rear brake light comes on with the ingnition in the "on" position and won't go off.

Wouldn't this light be controlled by the brake pedal switch?

Anyone have this happen? How do I fix it?

Thanks in advance. I don't want to drive around with it looking like I'm (sort of) braking all the time.

The regular brake lamps seem to be working fine.

Thanks,

RK

Does your hatch leak? It could have gotten wet.

Actually - the rear brake lights DO NOT work!

Any tips on diagnosing that problem? Could the system be smart enough to illiminate the third brake light as a warning that the main brake lights have failed?

Possibly. Have you tried looking for blown fuses for the taillights?

Problem found. Turns out I had forgotten to remove a jumper in the brake light switch (at the pedal) that I had installed while testing the Cruise Control.

Stupid is as stupid tests.
