Default white face gauge question

Now really......how hard is it to change to white face gauges....I have taken an older speedo apart to replace the gear in my old 924 and I know how it all goes together but how hard is it to replace ALL the faces with white face....including the fuel and temp gauges as well as the fuel mileage gauge.....'84 944

Took about 2 hours with the help of an experienced white faced guage replacer named Todd! Otherwise, figure 4 hours and be patient.

takes about 10 minutes to get the guages out on a late dash. then like 10 to swap gauges and 10 to get it all back in. the only hard part is pulling the needles off then putting them back on without bending them or putting htme on at the wrong angle and stuff

Hmm.. I was thinking about doing this... What do you guys think.. Would you keep black gauges with black exterior, burgandy interior?

Cant figure out if white would look better.

I have all black interior with the black and light orangish green numbers.....I think the white would look more updated....I am worried about the needles thought (getting them off and on correctly) oh by the way it is an early dash

I used the white faces along with satin aluminum bezels. Looks very updated and professional.

I thought the early dash was a real PIA. You have the "real" speedo cable and the gauges have to be disassembled. The stop pins usually have to be pulled and installed on the new gauge face depending on the supplier. Every gauge including the console ones are like this(except the clock) They do look good though. Make sure your light bulb sockets don't snap out of their retainers like I did. Got it all back together to find 2 of them had popped out. The later dash is actually a breeze compared to an early.

I didn't get the white face gauges yet.....I am thinking about this for one of my winter projects because I don't want to take it apart right now......it's driving time.....This winter I plan on doing them and also a complete engine bay detail as well as possibly 17" cup wheels if I can find a good deal....any one know a good place to get the gauges besides evilbay.........

Ok.. I have a side question.. How in the He!! do you get the oil pressure guage out of an "early" without dissasembling the entire console?

If you watch eBay, every month or so "DriversGauges" has a no reserve auction on several of their Porsche faces. Otherwise the starting bids have been $49/set. I got my late ones for $9.99 but had to bid on the earlys but got them for $24.99. They are a quality product on 3M reflective stock, none of the copy machine and stickum paper stuff some sellers have.

By disassembling the entire console...like I said the earlys are no party!

That's what I thought.. Thanks for the update.

Seems like a lot of work to change a damn burned out bulb on the oil pressure guage.

on the early console....take out the two screws in the upper corners of the bezel around the gauges...take out the two screws on the upper sides of the console....remove the heater control slider buttons and the fan **** (just carefully pull them off)....remove the face plate for the heater controls (may need to remove the stereo to get 2 tiny screws from the underside of the face plate)...once face plate is removed reach under the gauge plate and lift up (plastic clips)....then you can pull out the upper bezel to access the gauges, cigarette lighter, AC control, and clock.....reverse is just the opposite...I have done this too many times to count while doing my interior replacement.....I still have a clock and lighter problem.
