Default ball joint install

When re-installing the A-arms, does the shaft of the balljoint need to come completely up through the steering knuckle on the wheel and sit flush against the bottom of the knuckle?

Look at the crude picture I've attached and let me know if it should bd #1 or #2.

The pinch bolt should go through the groove in the pin. Thus, why there is a groove in the pin.

It will not go through the hole with the pin in the wrong place.

Yup , you can't get it wrong. Just push teh bolt in and the arm up, until the bolt slides through. As long as the bolt si not above the whole ball joint , then, you are all set if the bolt made it throught. Definately closer to number 2.
