Default Extremely quick spring and suspension question

ok, Paragon sells 250 lb springs as well as a 968 M030 rear. I'd like to save money on shipping and go with 250s with the M030 rear adjustable. Question is:

-If I upgrade the spring to 250 instead of 220 and put snubs in to restore the stock ride height, run KYB shocks front and rear with a 27mm front sway bar, will this be too stiff and induce understeer? I will have the 968 bar on the stiffest setting in the rear.

Thanks

Andy

I have 200# springs with the 968 M030 rear bar at full stiff. I still have slight understeer. Part of my problem is that my front tires are too narrow.
I think you would be better off with a 200 or 220 lb. spring in front.

BTW, this car will be autocrossed and I don't mind a really stiff setup, but also will this be murder on my control arms and ball joints????

Pete, you're right, even with KYB's and 200lb springs in the front, it'd still be real stiff and induce understeer, not to mention the bias is more towards the front with the motor there. I'll look into the 200 instead. Thank you for the reply

yes, when I was looking into getting a spring upgrade I looked at all of the options and ended up just getting some turbo MO30 springs for the front of the car, they are a little stiffer for the NA, but not too much to add noticable understeer, if you are going to be autocrossing the car I really would just stick with the stock springs or do what I did, 200# at the very max. Another way to combat the understeer is to get the Koni yellow adjustable shocks, some used ones if you can, set the front pretty soft but the realy about 85-90% stiff, this is not the best way to stiffen up the rear but in your case it should be okay. Really its all a question of how much you want to spend, just stiffening up one end will through the balance of the car off way too much. Gradual changes are the best, until you figure out the best combination for your driving style and car.

macfreak, i like to have a little oversteer since I actually see it as a help around corners and apexing. Kinda odd but, feel more secure with oversteer than understeer, it's a nightmare to me to steer into the corner and find out that no matter how hard i push through the corner, i'm pushing off the corner and into cones or whatever's there as a wall

If you like oversteer, I highly recommend NOT to increase the front spring rate at all if you aren't going to mess with the rate in the rear.

sorry if there was a misconception there. I was under the impression that adding a 968 m030 rear to my setup right now would induce more oversteer than wanted. So, I sought to increase the front rate dramatically when in reality that would plague it with more understeer. I guess 200's upfront will bring more balance then

Thanks for your replies everyone and participation

Andy
