I bought mine from AJ-USA right after that damn Excellence article when they were in super high demand. No discount for me, I think I paid more than $400 way back then. Still think it was worth it though. I have had mine for awhile so it has began to take on a nice patina.......

Thanks Pete, that's what I was afraid of.

Guess I'm stuck holding this beach ball.

Couldn't you just delete the airbag and use the 930S wheel, Brian? I want to do the same with my S, so I hope that's a possibility. Unless you want to keep the airbag, which I don't. Definitely going to throw one of these in my 89, though.

There have been mods to make the 996/986 wheels fit but it requires machining...... There are threads on 968.net about this.

Brian, it's not as easy as just removing the airbag wheel. If you tried that, I think your "!" light and airbag light will stay lit. I don't want to drive around staring at those lit all the time.

That's what I did. I don't trust those old airbags anyway.

Brian,

I'm going to buy one of these wheels too, they look amazing in these cockpits.
I personally think that I'd be a lot safer wearing only the seatbelt, than risk relying on some 20 year old airbag.
And, if you're worried about the lights, you can just reset them via the procedure on clark's garage: http://clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/elect-12.htm

Plus I sit REAL close to the wheel (damn my short legs) and am not comfortable with an explosive device that close to my chest.

Brian you drive like a grandma. <<<(pre-Kartzone smack talk)

Cyrus, the procedure you mentioned works great for resetting the light if it's been tripped. I'm pretty sure if you try driving without an airbag, the light will just come right back on. Ok, one option would be to remove the bulb for the airbag light. But what about the "!"? I'd seriously like to know how somebody put a non-airbag wheel in an airbag car and didn't have to disable the "!" light. Maybe I'm all wrong and the "!" light doesn't light up. I dunno. Somebody tell me. Then I can go spend even more money on this stupid car.

If you remove the airbag you will have have to remove the bulbs for th warning light or cut the signal wire from the airbag controller (This is what I did).

There is good info on the procedure here. Look under "How To"

I don't have an airbag car, but it seems one could make a jumper or something to fool the sensor.

Red1 - see Tom Pultz website for infor to disarm the airbags all together.

993 wheels have been made to fit and if I could EVER find a black and carbon 993 sport wheel I would buy it.
