Talking Problem with commute to work in 944

I've had my 944 for two weeks now and the first problem I've noticed is that my commute to work takes significantly longer now. It's not that I'm going any slower or that traffic is suddenly worse. Oh no, no, no. You see, it's like this: I have such pure intentions of heading off to the office like a good little corporate minion, and the next thing I know, I'm cruising around the countryside with a huge smile plastered on my face. I CANNOT resist driving this car! (A horrible problem to have, I know )

Another funny sidenote: my dog can recognize the Porsche engine sound from several blocks away. He couldn't distinguish the VW or the BMW engine, but the Pooch knows the Porsche! I find that amusing.

I guess there's no hope for me. "These cars were meant to be driven!"

Yes even these little 4 cylinder engines have a nice distinctive exhaust tone. I am always surprised at how well I can hear the car coming when other people drive my car and they pull up to the house. I have been driving these cars for 10+ years and still enjoy the commute! And they make fine daily drivers too.

I understand your problem, i must waste about half a tank of gas taking the long way home...or going on random drives at night through the backroads down to the shore. I really need to stop doing it, when gas was $1.85 to fill up, it wasnt that bad, but at $2.25 a gallon now its getting a little expensive to keep doing it!

Think about how our European counterparts feel when gas is $4 a gallon on the other side of the pond!

Funny, my dog too. I can hear her bark - which she only does once a day (really, never more often!) - as soon as I step out of the car, two stories down and several wall thicknesses; she's inside.
She never barks when I arrive home in the Nissan!

My akita does the same thing. When i pull up in the truck, she doesnt come to the door until i am inside...when the porsche pulls up, she is at the door when i open it

Whenever I park my car in a parking garage, whenever I go to pick it up after dinner, I am always amazed at how loud, deep, and distinctive the exhaust sound is indoors! I always wonder what exotic car they started...but when my 944 shows up, I always smile!

If only my HATCH NOISE didn't drown out the sound of the engine....

Similarly, I was waiting at my mechanics garage while he was finishing up on my car. I heard an engine start up and I thought he had started up one of his several 911's to move out of the way - it had too much grunt to it, I thought, to be mine. Well, sure enough...it was mine. Never knew it sounded that good. Probably threw me off because I'm not used to hearing it start inside an open, high-ceiling garage. Man, it sounded sweet!

About the sound of our exhaust.....

Am I the only one worried that I'm probably going to get a ticket one of these days in a parking garage? I love leaving it in first, and just going all the way around and around up to the top of the garage. Bringing it to about 5,000 rpm on each straightaway. It sounds so amazing in those parking garages....

Or maybe i'm the only one who does that.
