Default broken ignition rotor

While yanking the engine, I seem to have broken the top lip off of my ignition rotor. Is it necessary to be completely intact, for balance or something, or will I be fine. I guess I'll just start it up when everything's back together and see what happens.

I wouldn't, I would just buy a new one. Doesn't cost that much plus how old is it?

It is just a small crack or what? Can you post a picture? I would try to get a new one soon but it is small and not all the way though I would try it.

Here's a pic. Definitely broke off a big piece. I'll replace it ASAP, but I was hoping I could at least still start it up and run.

I had a slightly cracked rotor in one of my Saabs and the thing exploded on the way to work one day and tore the entire distributor cap to pieces. No real damage though.

I did the exact same thing a few weeks ago. I found the broken piece & stuck it back on with some JB Weld. Mine was essentially new too and it looks like the wings are there for balance. I didn't want to run it with a chunk missing.
