Default Alternator strut...stupid question

Stupid question here, what friggin way do i turn the lock nut on the alternator strut to loosen. My alternator belt is a bit loose. Its hot as hell out and the mosquitos are out in force. I dont want to break this strut again (its been welded back together once). I couldnt get the nut to budge at all, and it looked like i was going to freaken rip the alternator out of the car as i was pulling. Im currently letting the screw loose work its magic. Im pretty sure if im sitting infront of the car facing it, i need to pull the wrench towards me. Can anyone just verify this quicky. I feel stupid asking, but its better than sitting outside messing with the thing getting attacked by these damn insects.

you can probably just look at the threads, and you'll see them going towards the nut in one direction. turn the nut the opposite direction.

also there should be some way to hold the strut with another wrench so you dont put so much pressure on the alternator.
