Default Coolant Bleeder Bolt

Well the head just flew off the bleeder bolt. Does anyone know a quick source for one since I am suppose to run the track next weekend. I know the dealer but there isn't one close and they take a long time to get one then ship. Even if I knew the size and pitch I could probably use a regular bolt.

pelican and paragon offer 2 day shipping, or just do priority mail it would be here by next weekend.

Or,,, find another 944 in a parking lot or junkyard.. steal l it from there.

(if you steal it from a running one you might wanna leave a note telling htme you did that just so they dont drive with no coolant. Leaving a note when you steal something - humane thing to do. haha.

Same thing happened to me. I went down to a good hardware store near me and picked one up. I believe it was a 12mm with a 1.0 mm thread pitch.

A 12mm bolt with a 1.0mm thread pitch probably wont be easy to find at most hardware stores. But I think that is the best bet to get the car up and running fast.

Next best thing would be to go by your local mechanic or dealer and order the part. They typically get parts from PCNA next day if they are readily available.

It was just sitting there, and the head flew off it? I guess they must get fatigued after all those torquings.

Found one from a fellow PCA member locally that is rebuilding a '44 NA. I will order a couple to have a spare. I'm adding this to my list of stock spare parts.

I'm sure he was bleeding it, the same thing happened to me. I went to a local German car mech where my uncle brings his Audi (I was at my Uncle's place in NJ) and he happened to have a couple in a drawer. He gave it to me for free. Needledss to say, I ordered a spare the next time I placed an order for some parts.

As always, Clark's Garage is an excellent reference:
http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/cool-02.htm
"Anti-freeze tend to make them very brittle over time and they tend to break off when you're trying to reinstall the plug." He also gives the sizes, number of threads, and part numbers of the plugs.
