Default Engine Mounts

I'm considering replacing mine as one of those "while I'm in there" kind of deals; I've typically always been an advocate of the genuine parts (OE) but noticed that Lindsey racing has Kokelin hard mounts for not terribly expensive.

Has anyone used these? Because they're billet and don't have the rubber bushing part that the OE mounts have I'm figuring they transmit more vibration which generally isn't good (loosens up stuff, increases metal fatigue rates, etc.) but I'm open to trying them if someone else can vouch for them being good, quiet, stable, and not making the car feel like it's going to shake my fillings out. This is for a driver, not a race car.

Or I suppose I could just spend $500 and get the "super mounts". . . those things look really awesome. Anyone else used these?

Unless you're building a track car, stick with the Porsche OE mounts.
The Kokeln mounts will be very rough for street use.
The supermounts are very pricey. The latest factory mounts will last plenty long for $200 per pair.

yes I agree...hard mounts are not a good idea for a street car.

The worse thing I've seen from rough motor mounts is a broken oil pickup tube.

I'd be curious to see if anyone ended up getting these.

They look really good; I'm actually considering them. $500 is awfully damn expensive though, even for quality stuff. Then again, if the OE mounts will last 60K+ miles and I'm reasonably sure there isn't going to be any leakage of oil or other fluids onto them that would weaken / deteriorate the rubber once I'm done with everything else I'm doing on the car, maybe the stock ones are fine.

Engine mounts are just such a huge PITA job I'd rather get the most longevity out of them I can without worrying about weakening the rest of the car due to excessive vibration (the billet ones). . .

Kind of what I figured - I'll stick with the stock I think.

good idea...sticking with stock is the best idea for street use on our cars...hard mounts would be a PITA...on my friend's new evo, he put on solid engine mounts...its horrible even at idle with the vibrations...he regrets doing it big time

The "supermounts" are the ideal mount. Lifetime warranty and all. I will probably order solid mounts from them in the near future when the crossmember goes for modification.

Then again you dont replace them often so if the 300 dollar savings is worthwhile to you, I can see either way.

Just a thought: "Lifetime warranty" doesn't mean just your lifetime, but also the manufacturers'. They could be long out of business by the time those mounts fail.

Yup, sure could. Those are the chances we take in life.
