![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I think it looks alot hotter with the all red tail lights so I'm going to try and spend my time tommorow and get this small project done.
I have a couple questions though..
The product is Testors Candy Apple Translucent?
Available in hardware stores? or only online?
How do I remove the rear tail lights? From the hatch, and unscrewing those *****?
The tail light sections come out individually or all in one piece?
Can you see the reverse, and turn signals even though its transparent?
So all I have to do is get the lights out, tape out the red sections and just spray the orange and white areas? How many coats?

haha whoa what is this 20 questions??? haha
don't worry i do it too...anyway...yes you have the right color...and you can buy it from the hobby shop...here's what iceshark told me about doing it...
"Buy a little spray can of Testors transparent candy apple red #1605 from the hobby store for 4 bucks. Clean off the white and amber lenses with acetone. Tape everything off and give the lenses two light shots of paint. And I do mean light. You will probably screw up the first shoot and lay it on too heavy. Acetone will strip it and you can start over."

You can very likley buy the paint from any toy store that sells models. Maybe even Walmart also. And now that i think of it, probably any arts and crafts stores. Toys 'R Us, Pearl Paint, Michaels...

The paint you want is Testor's Candy Apple Red Transparent. You can get it at WalMart, K-Mart, etc. It's in with the model cars.
You don't have to remove the tail lights. The lenses are sealed to the body with a black tar like stuff that is just plain nasty to work with.
Clean the tail lights real good and use some very fine sandpaper or a scotchbrite pad on the lights.
Take newspaper and masking tape and mask off everything except the parts of the lights that you want to paint. Give them 2 very light coats of paint and it will end up looking like this.

a good way to tape them up quickly....
put some 3/4" masking tape directly over the black lines surrounding the lenses. Press them down firmly and then use your thumbnail to push it down into the gap on each side of the black strip. this will cut the tape off perfectly at the edge and then just remove the excess.
clean the lenses w/ some prepsol or rubbing alcohol or even just a damp cloth. I found that using a can of "adhesion promotor" from your local auto zone makes the paint stick better and you dont have to sand anything.
Two coats - light coats- of adhesion promotor and then a few coats of red to make the lights match. I use a coat of clear - duplicolor- to help protect the finish and make it shiney like the rest of the lense. If you really want them to match well, put a few coats on the orange/clear lenses, then spray a coat over all lenses together and it will blend them in together.

No it doesn't. I just painted mine ALL red with the Testors stuff this weekend. Some people have replaced the stock 21 watt, I think, halogen bulb for the reverse light with a stronger 35 watt bulb so you can see when backing out.
You can get the paint at Walmart, it costs about $3.

Recently passed annual inspection in Texas with red b/u lights. They probably didn't even look at them since one person performed all the tests. I'm using a 35 watt halogen bulb which provides sufficient light to aid rear visibility.
