odometer stopped working, gears are fine
This week my odometer stopped working, and I cant figure out why.
The facts:
1) I had not just reset the trip-ometer, it froze with 260 on the dial
2) I did reset it, to make sure it wasnt jammed. No luck
3) Replaced the odo-gear about 2 months ago
4) The unit is dissasembled, and everything passes visual inspection. All of the gears are in perfect mesh, and turn freely by hand
5) The speedometer works fine.
I am worried that maybe the motor with the worm gear is bad, but hesitate to test it unless someone more experienced with electronics tells me a safe way to do so.
TIA guys

Mine's an early, so i'm not sure if the same applies, but here goes anyway!
I had to move my gear back into place, but in doing so i moved the bar going through the final gear, the numbers and the little disc next to the numbers that makes them turn; this made the disc next to the numbers come unstuck from the bar - end result is the worm gear makes the final gear turn which turns the bar but does NOT turn the disc that turns the numbers - and there is no easy way to get to the disc to glue it in place
Hope that made a little bit of sense, and if it did I hope it was of some use!
Cheers

iloveporsches - short story is I have to cope with no odometer!!
long story is - It is almost impossible to disassemble it easily. I tried bending bits of metal so i could try and get to the metal bar and unstuck disc with some superglue and ended up loosing numbers down the side of the worktop and all sorts of bad things!! After getting myself well superglued to the speedo and quite a few hours of cursing i just gave up and put it back together as best i could, with all the numbers set to 944 I'm pretty sure after my attempt it is well beyond rescue, but keep on getting tempted to waste more hours trying. Now I keep my eye on ebay for a cheap speedo.
As they say, 'any idiot can take a watch (or speedo) apart; it takes a genius to put it together!'

well, on thursday night I reassembled it so that I would have a speedomoter for a roadtrip (down to pueblo motorsports park, saw two fast '44s there too!)
Strangely, the odomoter worked fine after reassembly. Must be that something was jammed up.
