When I was looking for a Turbo S a few years back, I contacted and spoke to an original owner of a 89 Turbo that DID NOT HAVE M030, nor the 928S2 brakes! He ordered the car, and it was an option in Canada. So there are 89 Turbo's that did not come with M030 from the factory. This owner still had the car in 2002 and is a PCA member in Toronto Ontario.

In 88, there were 716 (some references list 718) TurboS sold in USA of which only 339 were the Silberosa special color, the rest were from the regular color range that MY and the rarest is a Ocean Blue (only 1 sold in USA). All Turbo S in 1988 came with the special option "758" - but not all 758 packages were the same for interior trim! My 88 did not come with split seatbacks and did not have the roller shade cover for the back! (maybe the roller shade was a dealer prep installed item?)

Just to add to the confusion.....

But K27's car is a very good one....

Can someone explain to me the M030 option? This site only says the M030 is the Sport Group option. Does a car with M030 option have LSD?? Do all 89s have LSD?

M030 generally refers to the suspension. It means adjustable Konis with (I think) stiffer springs and thicker front swaybars, and adjustable rear swaybars.

most 1988 and 1989 m030 cars also came with 928S4 brakes - but apparently some m030 cars came with regular (non-928S4) brakes. So it's fair to say the m030 "option" does not include brakes.

I'm not 100% sure if the m030 suspension option was available BEFORE 1988, but I think it was, in the from of turbo cup racing parts.

A lot of these cars were ordered, or came from the factory, with various non-standard options. The vast majority of 89's have m030 and LSD with 928S4 brakes. But not all!!!

There are exceptions to the rule.. as well as the fact that these are old cars and have likely been modified at some point.. perhaps even downgraded to non-S4 brakes or non-LSD trannies!!!!

Ocean Blue.... while I am not certain what this color looks like, I have seen a picture here on the rennlist of a SoCal 968 convertible that was a light blue (F2 - Maritime Blue?) with white interior. One of the most beautiful color combinations I have ever seen (personal opinion). I would sure like to see a picture of this Ocean Blue car.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are some of your saying this picture from the MY '89 brochure is incorrect.

I would love to see a option code sticker, with an '89 Turbo VIN w/o M030, 220(LSD) or ABS(4??). US or ROW car, either or.

The M030 option through 1988 included higher spring rates, heavier sway bars and single-adjustable Konis all around. M030 cars also have harder rubber bushings. From 1989 on, M030 included higher spring rates, front coil-overs, single-adjustable Konis all around and the larger 928S4 front brakes. (Yes, Rich, M030 included the brakes on '89 and later 951s AND 944S2s.) The heavier sway bars became standard equipment.

LSD was a separate option, but I don't think that anyone is debating that all 1989 and later 951s included the M44-52 engine (KKK26-8 turbo, 247 HP) or the strengthened AOR transmission with both LSD and tranny cooler as standard equipment. My car lists the LSD tranny code (220) on the option code list, as well as 030.

K27 (Lance) purchased his car last year. It is in great shape, accident free and is what I only wish my car looked like (assuming you like black cars .) I believe he is selling it due to business reasons, but you can contact him and ask him yourself.

944 Pete,

Nice color. That looks too dark for F2 Maritime Blue. What is the paint code?
