What's the best way to ship seats?
Fellas-
I've agreed to purchase some seats from a Rennlister but it's been a challenge to find shipping that's safe & reasonably priced. Has anyone shipped seats before?
There must be another option besides spending $325 for two seats to be drop shipped. Apparently they're too large for a company like UPS to handle so they subcontract to another shipper and charge more... Is freight the only choice we've got?
Thanks!

Actually $325 isn't bad for truck freight. I shipped some Boxter seats for St. Louis to New York and it was around $400 included the padding and boxes. If you can't break the seats down or know an OTR Driver then Truck Freight may be your only option. It's not the weight, but the size of the boxes that is the issue (or was for me). Good luck!

When I bought my Sport Seats (ebay) me and the seller talked about this.
We came up with using wardrobe boxes from U-Haul. 1 for each seat. Did NOT take the seats apart.
Once the box is put together, you kind of slit the 2 front sides to make a more triangular shape. This also allows you fold in the 2 front pieces for a little more protection.
He put a couple of extra layers of cardboard on the bottom (rails were still attached) and taped the bejesus out of it. Arrived safe and sound. They lived in thoses boxes for about 6 months untill I got them reupholstered.
Shipped UPS ground. I think it was about 35.00/40.00 each.
I would probably use FedEx ground now. I have found them to be less expensive on most all ground shipments. You can go to a web site iship.com that list several different companis rates on one page. Just be sure to verify with each company that thoses are the correct charges.

Freight isn't that bad if you shop around. I got four wheels (with tires on them) shipped to me all the way from Illinois for about $100. Those weighed considerably more than seats would, too.

I shipped 2 race seats in one box (rails in another box) using UPS for I think $75-90. Don't let thier size constraints fool you, our driver says they will take pretty much anything.

I shipped some seats via FedEx using 2 25" TV boxes. The seats I shipped had removeable head rests, this allowed them to fit the box. With the size and weight of the boxes, I paid about $50 for ground shipping for the pair.
