I'm going to college for auto tech and I'm planning on rebuilding my engine. I start Oct 4th so I need some ideas. I can only get credit for doing it if I do some high performance mods so I need some input. Money wise I don't want to spend no more then 10 grand. It's not going to be a track car so It needs to be street legal. If any one has any ideas I am open to anything. Thanks!

I love my car, but I did think about doing that. I have until Oct to decide so I'll look around for one unless someone gives me some good ides to do my engine.

I can't believe there's still anyone here who thinks it's worthwhile putting a turbo engine in an n/a car. Anyway, the course says you have to rebuild an engine, not replace it, right?
As for your course, you're better off buying Detroit iron of you want to do a lot of performance mods that won't cost you a fortune. It's not easy or cheap getting extra power out of a Porsche motor.

What are your personal goals here?
You could build a good NA for significantly less. Given your curiculum, I'd buy some used heads off eBay and then build a flow bench and learn to port it. Get a cam from JME. Either buy a header from JME or build one yourself. For $100 you can buy his ITS organizer and it gives a lot of great info on these engines and includes specs for an effective header. You could build a short runner, large plenum intake manifold.
I disagree with converting to 951 specs. Why would you want to do that? It's old technology, Porsche or not. Build a modern turbo car. It can be done despite what people here will tell you. Turbos have improved dramatically and the plumbing for the 951 is certainly not ideal.

Honestly I'm not sure what I want to do or what I can do. I have a bit of experience wrenching on cars and I love it. Thats why I choose this field of work. I love my car but rode in MichelleJD's 951 the other day and loved it. I personally have never seen anyone do to much to a 924S and would love to try this. I personally just wanted to rebuild the engine like it is now. But in order to graduate I have to do some High performance mods, since I can only do work on my engine when I'm in chassis fab and high performance engines. I wanted to do it when I was in auto tech but am unable to because of time and everything we have to cover. I'm just looking for a few ideas, until I fully decide what I am going to do.
