Default Alternator again!!

Alright this is the fourth alternator, this time i got the Bosch one instead of the no name one. I was able to put the shield back on this time as well. I also replaced the battery with an optima red top. the volt gauge is once again reading below 12volts. and the car never holds a charge when shut off for more than 4-6 hours. Why do i keep killing alternators, I don't even have a stereo system in it. anyone ever had similar problems, or know of a way to trace the problem which i assume is som sort of electrical draw.
also does anyone know what type of switch the rear hatch uses to shut the interior lights off.

thanks
-John

John, when the switch is on and the engine not running, is the alt light at the bottom of the gauge illuminated?

is it like the low gas light or does it say something, it hasn't come on recenlty but when alternators went in the past it came on, in a few weeks it will prolly come on. right now i'm waiting on a new upper radiator hose.
cheack my luck here. I turned it on for 15 mins in the drive way(to chrge battery). When i came out it was smoking, it popped a hole in a hose. I don't think anyting else went wrong like a warpped head because i threw some coolant in and started it later and it drove, I didn't let it over heat again just wanted to make sure it worked still.

If the bulb is not working that means either the alt/reg is bad or the field is not getting energized. Ground the blue wire at the back of the alt and see if the light illuminates. If it does, the alt is bad. If it does not illuminate the follow the circuit back to the gauges. Sometimes its just a bad bulb. Especially w/4 alts replaced.

It's just like the low fuel light. You can ck it without starting the car.

You don't have to pull the alt to ck this. Just ground the blue wire in the 2 pin plug behind the booster. DO THIS WITHOUT STARTING THE CAR!!!! Then withit grounded see if the light is illuminated.
