Default FerrariChat vs Rennlist.com

I've owned two older Ferraris; a '77 308GTB and a '82 Mondial 8. So, I frequented Ferrarichat.com. Now, I look forward to Porsche ownership and thought I would comment on Fchat vs Rlist. Not to generalize, but the atmosphere at Fchat.com is friendly but not without hierarchy among owners. Those with expensive Ferrari's (575, 275, F40, etc) were considered demi-Gods and those with older 308s and, especially, early Mondials were not seen in such high esteem. Also, flaming messages and threads were common. Take a look if you'd like and see if I'm off base.

From my brief stay at Rennlist, I can say this. The requirements here are simple. Love Porsche. Sie mussen Porsche lieben! I am looking for a nice 944 sub $8K because that's what I can afford. What's the perception of that here. I can tell you it's been more than accepting and frankly, refreshing. I am thankful that the public is blind to inexpensive (not cheap) Porsches. As far as I'm concerned, the inexpensive and well cared for Porsches are worth more than for what they sold. They have stood the test of time and still look modern. That's why the Ferrari 308 was my favorite in it's class, even the 308GT4. Look at the 911. That body still sells. Look at any 944 and tell me that body isn't gorgeous. I think it's fantastic that I can experience such a treasure for less than $10K.

Thanks for "keeping it real," folks. I look forward to my stay here.

All the Way.

I will never forget the words of a 964 turbo owner when he came up to me and asked how I like my 944. He said: "I've always wanted one of those 944's, how do you like yours?".

I was speachless for a minute and offered him to trade his 965 straight up. Didn't work out but I made a new friend and never thought about 911 owners as snobs again - even though some clearly are..

Just remember that you in 944 land here.

ALL OF US here... either don't have the money for anything other than a "cheap Porsche" or chose to own a cheap Porsche because they want to.

So nobody he is going to give you crap for having 8k Porsche. Infact having a cheap Porsche and treating it like a $100k GT3 is very welcome here!

Things that will get you flamed here
1) Street racing (any car or any way)
2) Trying to "Turbo charge a 944 NA" - Don't ask as the 951 is the answer
3) Trying to get 50 hp on a NA from a cone fiter, Chip and cat back exhaust
4) Ricer mods to a any Porsche
5) Being too cheap to properly maintain the car and allow it be driven into the ground and then complaining about how 944's suck and are crap and honda's car so much better

BTW... Welcome!

I concur. I am not one that takes a car and tries to make it more than it is; thus, my signature. Take it, love it and appreciate it....for what it is.

Nabeel,

I am impressed with your car. Can you tell me the closest airport please so I could look into airline tickets?

Thanks.

to prove the point, last weekend was 944fest. John D. the grand puba if you will of rennlist, came out in his 993. While he was there he helped install a trans in one of the guys 944's and was greasier than any monkey ive ever seen. It may not be an overwhelming trend, but i have alot higher outlook of the 911 guys.

Not all forums are like Rennlist, I just bought a truck to use as a commuter and registered on a forum for that vehicle, the spelling alone makes me cringe and it's scary how little some people know about how a vehicle works! I'm sure a ford truck forum is not the same as Ferrarichat but there's nothing in the world like Rennlist.

Rennlist, there is no substitute!

Welcome to our world!
The Off Topic forum is quite nasty. Stay away from that and you'll love this place.

well I can't say we are tamer than Ferrarichat.com since we have our little flame wars and scantly clad posts (BTW did you take a look at the Grid Girls post in OT yet) we do have a lot of tech info here that will suit your needs in searching, buying and maintaining your next Porsche. Welcome to the board and welcome to the 944 forum. All your 944s belong to us
