Default 944 turbo starter heat shields - can they be installed on an NA?

I have heard people mention that 951's have a heat shield around the starter.

Is this a separate item (from the rest of the underbody panels)? Could this heat shield be made to work on a 924s/944? Is it a bolt in replacement?

If so... does anyone have a spare one I could buy from them?

Thanks!

My impression was the shield was only required for the turbo due to the proximity of the extra exhaust piping. I've never heard of a heat related N/A starter failure. In answer to your question it should fit or could be modified to fit very easily but might not gain you any starter longevity.

Assuming you've got two unused 10mm tapped holes on the passenger side of the bellhousing down near the starter, then yes you can use the big heat shield. Well, you also need the late style smaller starter motor. It has two studs sticking out the back that the shield attaches to. The bolts are M10x1.5x20 (or abouts) and the nuts are M4 (8mm hex). I do have an extra starter shield. PM me if you are interested.

You can get heat shield kit from Summitt Racing for about $20 that uses flexable shielding and stainless steel ties, but, in agreement, probably will not extend starter life. When my starter failed, I replaced it from Auto-Zone for about $80, with the lifetime warrentee.
