Default 944 Turbo aftermarket exhaust/tune questions

I'm looking at a 944 Turbo that has an aftermarket exhaust (of some sort). Quite sure the catalytic converter is gone, and it has some sort of adjustable resonator.
Although I'm not necessarily against a good sounding aftermarket exhaust, I also value the car being as original as possible.
Are there exhaust systems available that would bring such a car back to (near) stock, including a catalytic converter?

Also, it's possible (likely?) that this car is tuned/chipped. But the owner is not sure. Is there a way to tell if the car is tuned? And, same question as above... can one bring it back to (near) stock tune?

Thank you.

You are going to have a hard time finding an OEM exhaust for a car this old. That said, it would be very easy for a muffler or exhaust shop to add a catalytic converter to your existing exhaust system.

OEM converters will be pricey and difficult to find, and may not match the diameter of the aftermarket exhaust. Best bet for you would be to source a universal, stainless (assuming rest of exhaust is stainless) catalytic converter from a good brand (Magnaflow, Borla, etc) in the correct diameter of the existing exhaust - pay attention to cell size and the length. Higher cell count and longer length = more eco-friendly but lower flow, lower cell count and shorter = better flow but less eco friendly.

I think the OEM cat was near 24" long, but thats just an estimate.

In terms of the chip/tune, the best way would be to open up the DME and see if there is an aftermarket chip installed (should be labeled or branded with the manufacturer). If you have a boost gauge you can also check to see if you are running more boost than OEM.

For your scenario your best bet is likely contacting FabSpeed for a full exhaust system with cat/nice muffler on it.
