Default 924S engine Build (Project Performance NA)

Hey guys, I have a extra engine sitting around from a 85.5 944, Im thinking about putting it on my engine stand and doing a Performance rebuild. I have a couple of questions.

1. What do I need to do a 2.8 conversion???

2. Do you guys know of any good companies that sell performace engine stuff for porsches??

3. I already have a MAF kit and some other goodies that I will swap over. With the Project Performance engine, Im think about doing a 2.8 conversion, Some porting and polishing, cam, 3 angle valve job and swirl. Bigger throttle body, Turbo injectors, Puter connecting rods, Full balanced bottom end, Light weight fly wheel. Any more good ideas???

Im gonna slowly be doing this peace by peace, so any good ideas you guys might have to make a killer NA engine would be great, THANX

Think about putting a "Megasquirt" fuel managment system on it, they are not expensive and allows you to connect a laptop to your car and adjust EVERYTHING.

If you really want to go after some power with the NA, get a Milledge header and cam, you already have a good start with the MAF, but build a real CAI that puts the filter in the fender (it's the length of tube that makes the real power with a CAI), perhaps build a short runner intake manifold with a much larger plenum. Don't forget underdrive pulleys and increasing the CR.

Have you had any thoughts about swapping heads to a 16V? Just a thought....

Good Luck and keep us informed over time!

In a similar thread, is it possible to put a 951 motor into a 924S rather
then just messaging an N/A?

It is just as easy as putting a 951 motor in and early 944.

There is something rewarding about taking a 2.5NA and getting power out of it even if is much cheaper to do so with a 951 motor. Kind of like climbing a mountain. There are many ways to get to the top, but the joy of hiking it is in the effort and in the satisfaction in how you got there.

Certainly this type of thing is not for everyone.

About the 16V head on a 2.5L block - Thats exactly what a 944S is, so somehow porsche made it work! It's just an idea, i don't know all the details, but if you get turned off by some machine shop work perhaps this task isn't for you. I'm not trying to flame, just an observation.

M758 - Good Point! Whenever i get around to playing with my motor i'm sure i'll think long and hard about going the 'harder' route of keeping the 2.5L and trying to get power out of that. As you said its certainly not for everyone...but someday i'd like to do that...

Yes i most of us have heard of them. I personally have no experience with them. Try to search the forums as im sure someone has posted something before about them.

Hoff - 944 (8V'ers) NA's can have power, those Hybrid guys found one way to get it. I'd prefer to find another....

Later!

Fast 924s,

I will do some searching in the archives for stroker info.

ErichCS,

Thanks for the info on the 16v application. CNC work doesn't scare me at all. I am hoping this build up provides me with the chance to design and build some new custom parts.

944pete,

What rims are those? Very nice looking car!!!!!!!!

anybody have the web address for JME?
