I agree, the timing belt probably went. When was it last changed?

Oops! Too late.

That having been said, don't be an ******* about it Socal. If this is truly the case, there's no need to say anything else except "I'm sorry."

Did you know when the belt was changed when you purchased the car? I'm trying to establish a frame of reference here. The sound you described as well as the instantaneous shut-off are trade-marks of T-belt failure. You can check, as others have noted, by looking in the inspection hole, but this can often be open to interpretation.

If you want to be absolutely sure, pull the cover and have a look at the belt itself. There is also the possibility it shed teeth, so pay attention for copious amounts of residue inside the cover itself. It also may be difficult to tell if teeth were shed or not, depending on the position of the belt.

Personally, I would have a look myself and then take it to a shop to develop a game plan.

alright i'll be getting to that. haha it's a list of many many thing i have to do. first install the new clutch and flywheel, short-throw shifter, and new timing belt. oh what fun.
It's not like he didn't know. Should have payed attention to all of the broken timing belt threads since then. Had plenty of opportunities.

I agree, but it doesn't do any good to be flip about it now. The situation speaks for itself.

I still don't think that he realizes what a broken timing belt means... Just so you know, you can't just replace the timing belt and be on with it (usually). A rebuild of your head is in order..

If that is the case, then I'm very sorry. Are there any shops in the area that you've had experience with?

Oh, and by the way, I wasn't calling you an idiot at all. A lot of people who drive these cars don't know that right away. And you didn't have many posts so I didn't know. Wasn't being an ***. Sorry if it looked that way.

I would also check out www.rennmech.com (see my sig). There are some TX shops listed there that come highly recommended. Is this car your daily driver/only vehicle?

I might have missed, but are saying the car is cranking when you hit the key(motor turning)? Or are you just hearing a buzzing electrical sound?

447 I really doubt that you lost the timing belt. You would have noticed a serious racket at 70 mph, what with valves whacking into pistons etc. When you turn the key to crank the engine does it turn as usual, but doesn't fire or what. The buzzing sound you describe happens when? BTW do you recall what the volts, oil and temp was at when it shut down?
