Default Does a 928 Oil Filter really fit a 944 N/A

Trying to confirm an old thread I from a year or so ago, whereby the author claimed a 928 oil filter, which was the same diameter as a 944's but about an inch or so longer (deeper) would indeed fit a 944 N/A version only, and the cost is identical....the benefit?....Greater filtering capacity and easier "grabability" when taking off and putting on.

So...is this true?
