Default clear lenses group by crosspost

This is a cross post from the 951 board to see who here would be interested in a group buy for clear lenses (front and side)- let me know, so I can get a total and email Paragon asking them if they would be interested.

Honestly, I can't recall Paragon ever doing a group buy. In fact, I seem to recall a posting by Jason or Skip to the effect of "no group buys". You may just be wasting your efforts here.

Very interested but I think Skip has made it pretty clear his prices are pretty set on his products. I wish someone could come up with a better option than orange bulbs though, they really show up through the clear lenses.

I think the LED array is still orange and would show up even more because they are larger than the conventional bulb. Maybe a shield over the bulb that would reflect backwards and then bounce back off the reflective bulb housing. That would go a long way to hiding the orange bulb but might not be bright enough.

Do you mean when the bulb is lit, or when dark?

Randy, you dope, why haven't you taken my suggestion and gone to the horse's mouth on arranging a group buy?

As far as the 944 NAs, the forward combo running light and blinker is available. I think that is the same as the 924 also, right? So 924 owners could get in. And there are 928 clears available, too.

Jeez, I should take over this possible group buy and just take a commission.

As far as the bulbs, the side markers can use an amber or red bulb and are not all that visable when unlit. The forward marker/blinker is more visable if you stick in an amber but you can put in Sylvania SilverStars for about $25 for a pair and reduce the visability. Sort of expensive. And if the sun shines on the lens you will see a bluish iridescent tint from the silver bulb so they are not totally invisible.

LEDs can be had that are clear and shine another color, I believe all of them are that way these days. But they are expensive and don't work worth a darn in this application. Believe me, I tested them a year ago and forget it. Not as bad as running without any lights at all, but damn near.

Are the Silverstars an amber bulb that look silver from outside. I not familiar with what the bulb options are. I do know the amber bulbs with clears on another car I had really showed through the lens during the day. What do the Euro cars use for bulbs behind the clears?

The Euro cars either have a silver shield in front of the bulb or use the same technology as the SilverStars. It is an iridescent coating that is silver with a tinge of blue to it if another light source hits it. But when lit up from the inside it shines amber.

On these clear lenses the Swedes are making an amber bulb is not quite as visable as our lenses have frenzeling and are not like a clear flat sheet of glass/plastic. But you can see it if you really look. I guess what I'm saying is that an amber bulb doesn't jump out and grab you by the throat so spending $25 for a pair of SilverStars rather than 3 bucks isn't a slam dunk cosmetic decision.

And you can't use the European versions, which are a bit more reasonably priced because they don't make them in the #1157 dual filament standard bayonet base. And no one yet makes them in the #1155, 5 watt for the sidemarkers.
