Fuel smell when driving with windows down

When I drive at slower speeds with the windows down, I get a very strong smell of gas coming in through the driver's window (pasanger window doesn't open). I've tried to smell around the engine bay but can't pick up the odor.
Can you point me to where I should start looking for a leak? 🙏

If it's an early car it's probably a cracked gas tank, they're metal. Lots of threads on the subject. I had two early cars, one was cracked the other I kept from cracking by leaving the gas cap slightly loose to keep the pressure from building up in the tank.

I sealed it with an epoxy which resolved the smell in the cabin. I'll inspect further.

I got the exact symptoms after taking off the vacuum operated fuel EVAP system valves (located on drivers side just by the firewall). I wanted to trace vacuum leaks to rule this one out and even though I have the fuel tank vent tube connected straight to carbon canister, it still gives strong smell of gas with window open. This reminds I should put the valves back.
Perhaps yours' isn't working or you have a leak there?
