Default So just how much is the Porsche name worth?

Stopped and looked at a '86 911 Carrera coupe in a charcoal color with the factory widebody yesterday. Fuchs, car looked good, not excellent, but good, odometer read 68K miles. Really just what I'm looking for. I've always loved the factory widebody, but I'm not prepared to pay 930 $$. I called the lot today ( used car dealeship) to get the particulars and the first thing the sales manager told me was it had a salvage title. OK it should be cheap.......price?........$22K. Good luck!

There should be a good bit of wiggle room with that price. Find out if it's a factory wide body and then why it's salvaged. Also, check out how long he's had it.

On a salvage title?!?! I'd offer him at most half that.

My guess would have been 18k at the outside with a clean title with some wiggle room on that. It is a factory widebody and he stated a clean titled example would bring $35K. A bit optomistic there Bud....... I've seen pristine 930's bring $35k but not "OK" Carerras. Also it's a consignment car, so wiggle room might be dicey. I never asked about the reason it had a salvage title, I knew it was a losing proposition at that point. We were flooded badly here a few years ago from a hurricane and it might be a victim of that. It didn't look to be a catastrophic accident car. But, it also looked like a car with more than 68K miles. The motor was clean and free of leaks, but a pressure washer will get you that temporarily.

You know....944's usually run VERY cheap at used car lots, unless the owner knows a bit about them. Their bluebook value is almost nothing. Come on....5500 for a pristine 951 S???

$35K for a factory wide body is very steep. It'd better be very low miles, sportseats and a cab. with factory slopes. I would think that $18K for a factory widebody Carrera with good receipts and decent shape to not be out of the ballpark. BUT with salvage title you're pushing it and going to sit on the car for a while.

Well. . . I should clarify some. If you're going to track it and don't mind it getting the crap pummeled out of it, fine. But the fact that you comment on it looking nice doesn't fit well with "salvage title" at all. Salvage cars will be worthless as collectables.

Just look at the POS me and Matt H saw at a Corvette dealership. They wanted $6000+ for what Matt said was worth less than 2k.
