Default early speedometer to late transmission

I'm sure someone has asked this before, But is it possible/or has anyone done this. Hook a Late transmissions internal hall effect sensor to the early 944 speedometer. I know the 85.5 and up are electronic and 83-85 are cable driven.

if you are removing your cable-drive/front left hub, this might be an option if you call them to sort out specifics.

A lot easier to use a GPS and an hourmeter for the engine...
