Perhaps you could have said narrower and wider. Thicker and thinner, to me, means the belt itself has more or less material through its cross section.

Nevermind, no one seems to be listening to me today, just let the thread die. As I stated a few times before I said that I was referring to the width of the belt in the original email to pelican, and I stated I was referring to width in the rennlist post. Same thing happened in my post about the oil filters, when I said that STP was the same brand as Porsche. Then 10 people proceeded to tell me that they would only use Porsche brand in their 944. But I already said that STP makes them for Porsche and you can get the STP for less. A bad week I guess.

BTW, I got an email from pelican stating that the guy who responded to me was not a very good email checker. The higher-up offered his apologies and confirmed the difference to me. Should have happened from the beginning, WHICH is why I ever posted in the first place...

Perhaps the word thick confused him... As manning stated, I think wide and narrow are more appropriate.

Not to be a *****, but it wasn't until halfway down the first page that I realized you actually meant width.

I also got the impression you were talking about the thickness of the belt and not the width... as you used the word thicker. The word doesnt usually bring to mind width of an object, at least where I hear it used. Think: (That's a thick book... did you picture a wide book or a book with a lot of pages?). I think you are the one who owes an apology to the guy who replied to your first email, as im sure the others who responded simply apologized just not to lose a customer. You poorly chose your words and I see no problem with the response you were given.

The 944S, 944S2 and 968 use a wider timing belt, which if I read your unclear posts is the belt you were comparing the 951 belt with. Therefore the belt you were supplied with is correct and it is different and always will be. It is also a different part number. Before you complain about suppliers I would check your facts.

You read his posts wrong. The car in question is an S, the belt received was not as wide as the belt currently on the S. No 951 was involved.

That's not what I understand from his statement. It could be that the one for the 944S is wrong, although there are only two different belts, one for the 8V and one for the 16V. Seems to be the problem is that the poster is not experienced in Porsche parts and vehicles. Another possibility is that h is talking about the balance shaft belt, which was increased in width several years ago to 14mm, but there is a narrower (12mm and the original size) part, maybe old-stock?.

Anyway, this is Rennlist and I didn't see any post on Pelican about this problem........
