Electrical problem with sunroof motor
Car is 86 944 base.
I have tested the motor with external power, it works.I have verified that voltage, ground, and signal wires from switch are present at motor.
I have cleaned all the contacts on the various sensors and switches found around the motor.
What part of the wiring around the motor typically goes bad? Should I replace the relays? Something else?

Background: Bought car and am fixing up, all symptoms are "as found"
Symtoms:
Key at 1st position: No action at motor in either switch position (no noise, no movement, no nothing)
Key at 2nd position: No action at motor in either switch position (no noise, no movement, no nothing)
Testing:
Applied 12v and ground directly to motor: Motor works in both directions, sunroof supports move properly
Checked power at dash switch: 12v and ground present
Checked power at connection to motor assembly: 12v and ground present
Checked continuity of signal wires from switch to motor assembly connection: All wires have continuity
Determination: Some part of the motor assembly is faulty
Have brushed and cleaned contacts on the various connections in the motor assembly, no change in behavior
What I have not investigated/do not understand:
Function of motor assembly wiring. I know the motor its self works, but some aspect of the relays, switches, etc that are connected to the motor panel must have failed.
Please let me know if there is any additional information I can provide. There is rust/corrosion present on most electrical connections on this assembly. I have cleaned them as best I can, but I would not be surprised if there is further corrosion preventing proper function. I am almost at the point of blindingly replacing the various associated switches and relays, but I wanted to get more information first.

Late car, so is the key in position 1 or in position 2 (accessory or ignition on?) Is the sunroof currently open, closed, or unlatched? Are you trying to move it up, down, unlock, or lock it? Also, do any of these functions work? You say the signal wires are present, but did you mean that the wires are there, or that there is voltage on the signal wires when you activate the switch?
With what we can discern from post 1, the list of potential suspects is currently long... Starting with fuse 1 and fuse 8, both must be good for the sunroof to work.
There was a mid-year change in 86 to the sunroof mechanism, it will be helpful to know which your car has. Clark's has pictures so you can identify it.

On 86+ if by chance your instrument cluster isnt working due to a blown fuse, the sunroof wont operate properly at all…. Just in case, I thought I’d mention it.
