Default Checked out an NA

So I am on my way to the store to get some dog food and on the way at this Corvette place I see this Purple NA. Now Purple is not my color BUT when you are on the hunt for a cheap NA, you would think a Purple repaint would be WAY up there.

Upon close inspection, I see that the car has actually been repainted with about a 6 out of 10 type job, a 50 footer if you will. It is not a 1 out of 10 MAACO type job. That said you can also see evidence of poor body work and previously repaired panels.

Car has cheap stickers on it, lower Euro valance (which I thought at some point in my life looked good, must have been drunk, what was a I thinking??), awful "Porsche" light filler, etc.

Sooo, I am thinking that an offer in the 1500 dollar range would not be out of place. Though, to be honest it looks more like a 1K type car to me.

I go home and check their web page to see the following:
"Perfect 944, Must See" - $6995

Let's just say for a second it was PERFECT, all records, a desirable color, no damage, what would an 86 944 with 95K miles be worth. 7K, Maybe, on a good day.

Now lets say that same car is PURPLE!!

Oh yeah, now lets say it is an okay respray with bad body work, a slightly damaged (good enough that immediate seat replacement is not necessary, but would be nice) interior, did I mention it is purple?, and unknown service history.

I thought 1500 was a damn fine offer :>)

If it says porsche on it, used car places think they are diamonds in the rough and worth a lot.

POP, I doubt I would pay that for a conversion like that unless it was perfect. However, this one is not a 3.0 conversion.

I wouldn't drive a purple car unless I got paid to do it.

Karl's right on the money - seen examples of that down here too.

Purple. Great. Nightmares tonight.....

I saw that car last weekend when I drove by that place. Chicago cars seem to be a little more expensive than some other areas, with people looking to get 5-6k for ok to good condition NA's, and not a Turbo in sight for under 10k.
