CP in autox?
I have gutted the interior of my newest 944, because it was horrid, so now it seems like i should be running in C Prepared, can anyone confirm this for me, weight reductions are supposed to knock me into prepared class i know that, but do I have this totally right?
( if so I might be kicking some ***, because no one else currently runs in CP in our region) this is just a temporary car anyway...

Yeah - gutting the interior moves you to prepared in SCCA. Even if you don't do anything else. Of course if someone shows up with a prepared car built to the rules you'll get stomped.

Yes, you would be CSP. CP is a class for older muscle cars like mustangs, etc.
CSP is a tough class. Ask me how I know. Be prepared to get your rear kicked by prepped miatas and second gen MR2's. Unless you are prepared to go all the way and prep your car to the extent of what the rules allow in CSP, you should just plan on going for fun and learning, and maybe having a little unofficial competition with any of your other Porsche buddies that show up.

haha, no i'm not gonna sell it tifo, but yeah I will just run in CSP and have some fun, no chance of me doing well in that class specifically here, we have some nationally good drivers. Autocross is a blast though, sometime we should have a louisville/cincinatti get together. I want to see that car of yours, looks amazing!

Ok - let's try this again - slowly. I'm reading from the 2002 rules, so forgive me if the car has been reclassified since then.
As far as SCCA Solo II goes:
Porsches are explicitly excluded from Street Touring and Street Modified.
A stock 944 8v non turbo runs in E Stock.
Modifications that take you out of stock move you to C Street Prepared.
That would include changing the computer chip, rolling the fenders, removing the ac, stress bars, larger/wider wheels, lowering the car.
One of the things you can't do in Street Prepared is gut your interior.
A 944 8v runs in F Prepared. Minimum weight is 2200 lbs. Maximum wheel size is 16x10. Maximum track is 64 inches. You'd run against 3 series BMW's, Datsun/Nissan Z cars, 911's, etc.
There is one caveat to the gutting rule: If you prepare the car completely to Improved touring specs, you can still run Street Prepared. However you can't run wheels larger than 15x7 (ITS spec).
Macfreak - there are pics of my car here.
Tifo - I reread 14.8 A.
.
Now they also say spring perches can be added to shocks. So - and this is only my opinion - you can use coilovers as long as you retain the original torsion bars

Springs must be of the same type as the original (coil, leaf, torsion bar, etc.)

Rockfan has the answer. If you want to build your car up that far and still be competitive (not really gonna happen in FP) you have to build to SCCA ITS spec AND get a logbook. The car has to pass scrut at least once to qualify the ITS rule exemption (at least in my region). New last year you can now run 16x7" wheels (not really an advantage for AX 944 - should be using 15x7 with 225/45-15 tires). Also, the 16v 944S is a new addition to ITS.

Thanks I think Rock. I knew what class I was in. As far as the gutted interior goes, mine is not. Apparently our SCCA chapter is more lenient on gutting the interior, because I know several people that have only seats and a cage in the car's interior and they are in Street Prepared, according to the SCCA people.

We've got a couple of guys here who runs a Rabbit in FSP, no headliner, rear seat or carpet, but they're such poor drivers that nobody bothers protesting them.
Also have a couple of brothers that have a faster than snot DSP Acura, they removed the rear seat and welded a bar between the rear strut towers. I don't like it when they get bumped into CSP, as they are faster than most of the CSP cars.
BTW - love the look of the white phonedials.

Well I don't think an ITS preped 944 will be very competitive in CSP. Reason is probably in the details of the rules. I think they ALLOW ITS prepped cars in CSP for convenicece rather that competition. It may be your only option however as you would really get creamed in FP.
Then again you could just run FP and not care too much.
