They stop mocking as the Auto 924S pulls away in front of them...

It's a perfect daily driver. I really appreciate it when in 2 hours of 5mph stop and go traffic. Cinci's traffic is awful..

I have an auto too. I got my kind of by default though. Not very many for sale in my area at the time and this was by far the best one available. Its a good thing too, cuz i haven't learned how to drive a standard yet.

Just tell anyone that 'bags' on you that you can't drive a stick any longer because of a knee injury from football or skiing.

Similar to Eric, I acquired an automatic by default. I picked it up to part out the engine, but it was is such good shape I couldn't.

Now I have two, an '86 5 spd and and '87 auto.

I refer to them as 'his and hers', wife refers to them as 'his and his'!

Similar to Chris, I take the auto on high-traffic days as I have a 51 mile each way commute. Don't fret though, neither are daily drivers as I have a Volvo for that.

Cheers to all the Auto's!!

I prefer stick- I kinda fell into the 924S- very long story. But I'm the 2nd owner and I enjoy it everyday. Who could say that about any other automatic.

BTW- I saw a 996 TT with Tiptronic on Friday night at Quaker Steak and Lube. I didnt think Porsche ever put an auto in anything "Turbofied"..

I was speaking with a gentleman at the local Porsche dealer several months ago, we were talking about sales, and which models are most popular ect. he then told me that it is easier to sell the tiptronic 996 turbo than the stick. Funny, I allways though opposite.

That's because most people buying a new 996 Turbo are posers, not enthusiasts, IMHO. How anyone can buy an auto Turbo is beyond me. Why?

Vette, i have an automatic 924S of the same year. I used to take flak all the time from my buddies joking with me...but as long as you realize that the car really is slower than a minivan full of kids in acceleration, you just learn to joke with them. Its funny when none of them can keep up with me on the exit ramps though....

Im partial the manual transmissions though, i learned on a standard '89 Probe LX, had some fun times in that car learning with my father "PRESS THE CLUTCH IN WHEN ITS SHAKING"..."YOUR GONNA GIVE ME WHIP LASH!!!". Looking back at it i laugh now.

The auto's are good commute cars though, pretty good on gas and has a very smooth transmission. My only gripe about it is that they are 3-speeds and have no overdrive. This makes them rev a bit high at crusing speed on the expressway. Figure at about 60mph you are reving close to ~3000rpms.

The 924S was great for gaining driving experience for a new driver like myself, its not fast, handles well and stops well. Great combo i think. Plus it got me to stay away from the 'fast and the furious' mentality. Im looking around for a replacement however, either a n/a 944 or a 951....hopefully the later.

924S = 924 SLOW

A automatic has its advantage when your just looking at relaxing when you take a drive.

I saw one in a 968 in Kansas City once, but I had no idea what to do with it. It also was missing a peddle. I know those guys like wrenching on their cars, but I really think they should reinstall that third peddle!
