If its in really nice condition....a lot. Someone could easily buy that for 10 grand. Its a niche market so it REALLY depends.

Really? 500 for a junky 16k 931? That seemds a little low. Well this one is extremely clean except it is torn apart a bit and it runs like ****. So how much for one with a very clean rust free body but with the dash torn up a little and hardly runs? I assume it could be put back together and made to run. It would likely need a lot of money for all new hoses, belts, probably even weatherstripping and stuff right? Just sitting for 20 years? How much would that cost to put all new rubber all over the car? It was his sons, and once his son died it just sat.

Once all the rubber was replaced and it was all put back together, could I really get $10k for it?

I dont know the specfics of why, but do not forget that the 931 is up there as one of the most expensive Porsches to repair and maintain.

Why would you buy it? I've heard those cars are full of problems. Not even worth the money even if it was 1k miles.

Ten to one it needs a lot more than rubber. Replacing all the engine seals is a BIG job in itself. A good start would be to do a compression test. If that checks out, then you can start thinking about it...maybe.

I don't think rarity is going to help boost the value of any of our cars.

Don't forget - those cars are a lot more tricked by Porsche than most people know. Piston oil squirters(not on 951), solid lifters for potential high revs, Carrera GT, GTS and GTR parts avaiable for some money.

The 81 and 82 cars use an Audi style trans like the 944 - in fact, you can use ANY 951, 944 or 924S box in the 931. You cannot, however , use the 931 box in anything but an early 944 or 924S - unless you don't care about the speedometer.

Also - the ONLY mod Porsche used to go from the 170 hp 931 to the 210 hp carrera GT, was to install the intercooler. The coolers are $1000 (when you can find one)- 40 hp in about half an hour.

If you are buying as a track toy, a stripped 931(retaining door panels) weighs about 2480 pounds, now if you make carrera updates and modify the front spindle to accept Bilstein Firehawks or escorts....

At this point in time there are not that many of them left. Like there big brothers ( the 944 ) they had several issues. Bad trans on the early ones , bad brains ( the siemans one , not the bosch one ) and the proverbial broken J pipe. Still , they could run circles around the 944 N/A . It is my considered opinion, that this is a car ,when found in good original condition , will be the 914-6 of the future in yrs to come. It represents a giant leap in the 944 series in both body style and mechanicals.
