shagged carpets
My 944 2.7 N/A seems to be starting more reliably now, thanks for earlier advice chaps.
The passenger carpet (was light grey) is pretty discoloured in places: anyone know if replacement carpets are available, (for RHD), except from the local wallet-lightening main dealers, of course.
Has anyone tried recarpeting by, er, just putting new carpet in and cutting it to shape? What sort of results did you get?

It's really not that hard, just more time consuming. You can actually go to a carpet store and buy the carpet, just find it in the right length thread, good material and most importanly closely matched color. Make a mold from fiberglass, secure the carpet to the mold replace all the peices you had to take off to take the old carpet out.

Make a fibreglass mould (mold) ?
Of what .. the floorpan, or the sill edging..?
I'm a bit mystified about what I would use the fg mold for, unless it's used to shape and re-contour the carpet prior to installation.
Can someone enlighten me?
cheers

I know that Pelican Parts sells the whole carpet kit. Around $380 if I remember?

In this process do you end up using the fiberglass shell to mould the carpet into shape, or, as I am interpreting from bhj0887, glue the carpet to the shell and install the shell (Yech... vibrations)?

I have found a couple places that offer a full molded carpet set for $229-$259
Now I don't know the quality but it does make me think that the places charging $500 a set are putting alot of money in their pockets.
It's freakin carpet for cryin out loud, there is no reason that a set of molded carpet should cost $400-$500
I think it's just people jackin up the price because it's for a porsche

No, all auto carpets are priced that way.
I sprayed rubberized undercoating in the areas I thought it would make noise. Now that I think about it, it actually turned out pretty good. At least for the $30 I spent to do it

I installed carpet out of a wrecked 944T into the 86. Installation is pretty easy, though you need to remove the rear side panels, front seats, and center console. The big thing is, if you are going to change colors to say black...you will need to find a new rear seat-back, since it has carpet attached in a different color. I haven't seen a good used grey carpet set available in a long time, especially not RHD...never hurts to look for used first though.

Thanks guys,
That's given me a lot of useful ideas.
Sounds like if I strip the old carpet, (carefully to get an idea of where and how it's moulded), and try fitting a plain cheap bit of carpet, which I can hack about until it seems (seams) pretty good, then I've got what was a flat template for some quality Axminster or Wilton, and maybe some soundproofing thrown in if I leave it underneath. I like the idea of quality custom, and I can try a few other colours while I'm at it. It might take a couple of attempts anyway to get it pretty damn good. I'll take some before and after photo's
If I can't get it looking really good, then maybe I will try one of the moulded replacements sets suggested. I think the fun will all be in the seams, as I think it's bound to need a few
Cheers
