Default Click/knock comes from rear upon moving from a stop

Nearly every time I start to move the car, there is a loud knock that comes from somewhere in the back. It has done it for quite some time. Since I first started hearing it, I have replaced the torque tube, the transmission, and both cv axles. So what is it?

Just guessing, but didn't someone recently mentioned that a loose parking brakes can also make that sound?

It's the brake pads on your 944T calipers in the rear more than likely. I have the same noise, I think it is due to the lack of the silencer backing plates.

What Tifo said.........
I heard the same sound forever on my 951, had always suspected it was a pad moving in the caliper; just did a complete brake job all around, sound is now gone. Pads are tighter in the caliper.

Hmm could be, but it really is a rather loud knock. If I hadnt changed everything Id say its the cv, since it kind of echoes throughout the car.

If it sounds like a retarded woodpecker, prolly CVs.

I had a single knock/clunk sound, then tightened off my parking brake pads (replaced them actually) and its a lot less frequent now. Next up is backing plates for the pads, I dont have those and ive got some wicked squeel.

I have this too. I thought I'd dropped a socket into one of the wheel wells. It started after degreasing the tranmission and I took the wheels off to get the pressure washer in there. I check the brakes. BTW it sure is nice to know we all can share experiences.

Yes that sounds very symptomatic of c/v joints crying for grease ... or replacement , try grease first though

I had a loud clunk coming from the back of an AWD celica I used to have...it ended up being the rear differential bushing/mount was deteriorated, chunks were missing, and the clunk was the diff smacking against the unibody. The exact same problem appeared in my friend's AWD RAV4 before he traded it in for a scion. Is there a trans. mount on these cars that is made of degradeable material that would allow the trans to smack the body if it were damaged/missing? Just a thought

It can be pretty loud if its brakes. Mine did it a few times as im backing up, I almost panicked thinking I backed into another car or the curb it was so loud.
