Default Manual sunroof conversion - pictures

This weekend I converted my electric sunroof to manual.

To do this job _right_, you would need:

2 manual sunroof rear clasps (924 model)
2 manual sunroof rear cups (the things that the clasps hook into)
a manual sunroof headliner

My car is not a concours winner anyway, so I did the conversion using only the rear clasps and none of the other parts. The result is good enough for me.

It was very easy; took about an hour, taking plenty of breaks. Once you have the sunroof out, it's all pretty self-explanatory. You have to:

- remove the existing sunroof guides and attach the manual clasps instead;
- cut some of the inner headliner to allow the manual clasps to close (you don't need to cut the vinyl, only the cardboard stuff beneath it);
- remove the rear roof panel and remove the rails;
- reattach the rear roof panel.

It works fine, and it's a quick 'fix'. Here are two pictures. Again, it's not perfect, but good enough for me.

Gary.

Not to steal your thunder, but besides the half dozen threads over the past year about this, and the fact that many listers joke about Sid chiming in any time a question is asked about sunroof adjustment, there is also Sid's website with a how to about the manual sunroof conversion.

And don't forget, as I posted in your thread about this a couple weeks ago, you cannot use a manual sunroof interior liner on an electric sunroof panel without modifying the sunroof panel. If you can track down an actual manual roof panel you save a bit of weight and can more cleanly install the interior panel.

Looks nice.

I have done that myself.
I have also given many people info via e-mail about how to do it.

Did ya cut away the electric liner so that the claspd fully close ??

I'm thinking of maybe doing that instead of modifying the elctric roof or buying a manual roof complete.

No worries, Michael! I'm aware of Sid's site (in fact, it prompted me to tackle this project), but his site doesn't say anything about potential difficulties with the headliner. I heard about these problems for the first time two weeks ago in my other thread, and here I just want to show what it looks like, roughly, when you reuse the existing headliner. Not claiming I invented the process

Thanks for the reminder about the fitment problems with the manual headliner and electric panel! Maybe one day if I am really bored I'll attempt a _full_ conversion...

Best,

Gary.
