Default oil grade

I'm currently running synthetic oil 5w30, I've been told this is a bit thin, and I want to swtich to a thicker oil. What would you guys recommend as far as grade and brand for synthetic oil. Thanks so much!

I use Mobil 1 15-50 except for the middle of winter at which I go to 5-30 Mobil 1. Thinner oil in colder weather and thicker for hotter or racing.

In your neck of the woods, that oil should be fine with the exception of like, July-Sept. In those months I'd go with a 15-50 Mobil 1

Thanks, I run the 5w 30 in the winter with no probs, but with summer my pressure is still ok, but a bit lower, I'll switch to 15w50, is mobil 1 the best or is another better? thanks!

Porsche recomends Mobil 1. So I'd go with that. Now for dino-oil, I use Castrol (just a preference), but I'm of the belief that there is not much of a difference in major brands (Kendall, Penzoil, Quaker State).

do the n/a's really need that thick of an oil? i would think 10w-40 would be good enough...

Well I have about 140k on the bearings, and when the road surface gets up to 140F and the underhood is good for 200 or more, I'm thinking its a good insurance.

I run Amsoil HP 10w-40 year around in the 84' (~183k miles on it) and have had great results, pressure is always ~4.0 bar cruising and up to temp. I do run their oil filter as well SDF-36 for our cars and practice the long drain intervals. Oil is recomended to 25,000 but last time I changed it around 22k because I wanted fresh oil in for a long trip I was planning. I am going to run Amsoil Series2000 Racing 20w-50 in the 83', although it is not entirely put back together so I have no results yet.

Do a search on the Racing forum...always some good info on their for oil.
Here is a web site to Amsoil info if you are interested: http://www.performanceoiltechnology.com/ourproducts.htm

Take Care!
