Default Looking to buy a 944 S2 and...

Hi,

So I went to look at this S2. The car is in mint condition. The only problem is that when you down shift form 3rd to 2nd while making a right turn, there is a violent vibration that shakes the entire car and it looks like its is coming from the transmission. It does not do that if you down shift from 3rd to 2nd while going straight or when making a left turn. Some one told me that it could be a transmission mount? but I am not sure. If someone knows about this problem, please let me know

Thanks

p.s. oh, and the cruise control does not work either.

Ok I've never seen 12 way 944 seats. Mine are 8 way that I just installed a couple of days ago.
There was an additional 2 prong connector on the driver's side harness in addition to the main power connector. There was no provision for it on the passenger side nor did that seat have the pigtail harness. Is that a heating element? Anyone know?

Ok,
So the car is in Long Island, NY. He is the second owner. The car has 79K on it. The only draw back is that it has been in an accident...ran into a stop sign 4 years ago. There was only body damage as per the service records. He spent 10K to get it fixed. I drove to car all the way up to 100mph and its straight as an arrow. Not a single vibration. My mechanic is supposed to check it out on 6/1. I guess he'll let me know of the rest. Otherwise the car is mint inside-out. Interior is immaculate. He wanted 12K for the car. I have him down to 10K and he is willing to half the repair costs. Oh, no 12 way seats here...I have never heard of that either. Its a 1991 year model.

10K for a perfect 91 S2 is a good price. If you find one for less I can almost guarantee that you'll have more than that into it before you're done. I speak from experience here.
Get the transmission checked out. If it's only the mount, that can be replaced for under $200. If it's the tranny itself see if the seller will reduce the price to cover a replacement.

I agree, I havent been able to find one for this price and this condition..at least around NY. And you are right, repair costs do add up pretty fast. Hopefully it'll just be the mount and I be driving my s2 next weeK!

i saw the ad for that car and ran a carfax on it. black with gray. i called on the car in feb or march and the guy who is in insurance was out. i never called back because i didnt want to spend over 10k. he is only about 45 minutes from me.

from the pictures it looks very nice. if you get it for 10k plus half the repairs you are getting a fair deal in my opinion. like pete says if you find one for less you will have more into it before you know it.

i know, why did i have to go to jersey to find an 89 with 54k when there was a 91 with 79k so close to me.

pm me with where you are on LI, if you are near me you can come over and check out the 89 S2 i just bought for comparison. since the one you are looking at is 2 years newer it should be worth 500-100 for the year. how much do you deduct for 79k vs 54k?

plan on doing belts $500, motor mounts 500, and the cam tensioner pad $50

ahsan127, If you are interested in a 951 Turbo for a pretty reasonable price check the classified ads in Newsday. I looked at the car and it was in very good shape, but my father says its off limits until i get older. The car is in Glencove, not sure if its still available though.

I actually live in CT but drove out to LI to check the car out. The belts were just done 1200 miles ago. I thinks it does need a cam tensioner though. I would think an 89 w/ 54K would probably be better car over all depending on how it was maintained. How much did you end up spending on yours?
