When I replaced mine, i cut the top off the old one to see what happen and get an idea of how it worked. It was full of oil which caused the failure. I suppose you could cut the top off and use electrical parts cleaner......
They do have a service life though. If the wearing parts are to far gone or a diode is burned out your going to have to replace it anyway.

Yeah I just did this last week, $100.00. My idle was also about 3k or so. I ended up just removing the throttle body to avoid stripping the lower screw which holds the TPS. The outlet hose from the turbo and temperature sensor get in the way and it's almost impossible to get the phillips head to grab a rustly screw.

I bought mine from Pelican for $97.
Andy,
Damn you. I should have posted this yesterday. I ordered mine yesterday afternoon.

EDITED: Partsbin is showing $100.16 (whith free shipping would have saved a few dollars). I don't mind spending the few extra $$ on a Rennlist sponsor.

I had the same problem with my '86 (oil in the TPS). I pulled the TPS and carefully cut the top off. Just follow the seam with a small sharp blace like an X-Acto knife.
Once the top is off, clean the resistor traces with some alcohol and then use a dab of RTV to "glue" the top back on.
This would also be a good time to put some dielectric grease on the connector pins.

Streck, I think its more expensive for you since your car is a 951. It's cheap for NA's. Parts Bin is free shipping, but I don't know how much Pelican will charge you just to ship something thats about 1/2 lb in weight
