Smile That silly upshift arrow...

Well my 15 year old son finally asked me what the upshift arrow was yesterday. After I explained what it was he said, and I quote:

"Oh, I thought it just wanted you to go faster"

The upshift light is rediculous at times...

Not accelerating at 2.3k in 4th..and its telling me to upshift. YAH RIGHT! Upshift that low...and the whole cars gonna shake.

On my 85.5 I pulled the cluster out and crushed the little upshift bulb with a pair of needle nose pliers.

I only use it to remind me to try to save gas.....If you shift when it tells you to, it seems like you are driving like an old lady.......(apology to all old ladies on the list).....I really don't use it at all....I usually rev her up to 4 or 5 on the tach anyway

if you see the light to begin with you drive like an old lady anyhow!

it only comes on if you're operating inefficiently or not at 100%

funny, i seldom see the light.

rennlist is full of old women.

i don't even notice the arrow anymore. But I have tried following it for shifting points and there is no way that that can be good for the car. The thing was lugging and shaking all over the place.
As for the Saturn comment, I will have to share that with my fiance' and her Saturn, maybe I can convince that is what it means too. "I have to drive faster Hun, the car is saying too." Best wishes and ignor that arrow! - Jay Gratton

to everyone that complains about their annoying shift lights:

if you drive like an old lady its going to tell you to shift at a low rpm. if you want to accelerate at all after that you'd better do it very slowly and smoothly(or you'll lug/get vibration); you'll see the light again soon. if you accelerate a bit harder in the first place, you won't see the light till later. drive like an old woman, and it's going to tell you to shift too soon for your liking; if you follow it you will save gas. you just won't make the people behind you very happy, but you already are doing that since you drive like an old lady anyway

Mike I don't drive like an old lady, but as soon as I get that straight pipe on my car, that light is gonna be on more often as I'm driving thru neighborhoods at higher RPMs, waking the neighbors to the 944's sweet song. muhhaha...
