Question rallying a 944?

no one flame.....and please hold back your comments on "dont, youll chip the paint" or " your a friek"

but..I love rallye and I love my 944......
And while we were on georgia 60 there were lots of appealing dirt roads that led up the mountain and I was thinking that when I go up there when I have my license(so I dont have to drive with someone[so I dont scare the crap out of them]) I'd like to go up one of those trails......BUT...very, very veeeery slow, maybe hitting it for one sec to get some dirt flying but other than that not passing over 20mph.(dont want to wreck my car you know)

I think it would be an awesome experience and the car might perform better than any of us would expect off-road.

I think if you do this, you should lift your car. Perhaps some torsion bar adjustments, and adjustable coil-overs, so you can lift it an inch or two. It would make the car a little better suited to the large bumps and pot-holes on dirt roads.

On a similar topic, I took mine down a dirt road in the mountains the other day. I love how predictible these cars are when they begin to drift. They really are quite fine machine's.
Was hitting 80-90 (kph) on the dirt roads, tearing around the corners (visibility was great, didn't have to worry about traffic), never even got a scare, was just plain ol' fun.
Then again, all my paint is already buggered, and my car's already rusting pretty bad, along with a toasted engine, so what do I have to lose?

Harry, the bottom one is a '65, built to match a '66 factory rally car... they're running historic rallye events (and usually winning them too). The team is actually sponsored by the local Porsche importer. http://www.autocarrera.com/motorspor...rsport_fi.html
(in finnish, unfortunately)

Pictures came from a local speed shop's web site, http://www.euroracing.fi/kuvagalleria/

Driving on gravel roads is one of the best ways of learning car control and I've spent a lot of time on back roads playing around. Don't want to do it in a car with good paint though..
