944cabriolet

Hi. well, I'm torn between these two cars. One is 93 Mustang GT which I have owned for the past 8 years and modified it (supercharged). Porsche is 91 S2 cabriolet which I purchased about a month ago.

Originally, I wanted something different from my Mustang. So I looked around and found this mint cabriolet. So I bought it. Now its time to sell my Mustang. But I'm not sure if this is the right move. I mean I love my 944. It handles really well, looks sexy, etc.... But I also like my Mustang too. I guess I'm used to the V8 exhaust rumble and its strong acceleration.

IMO, 944 is well balanced car. Nice suspension, excellent brakes, solid body, etc....MUCH more refined than my Mustang. However, Mustang has great acceleration, it has poor brakes, not so good suspension, etc...

In the end, I know its up to me to decide. But just wanted to hear some of your opinions. (I've seen few posts in the past which suggests there are some Mustang enthusiasts on this board!)

Either of these cars will be used only as weekend cruiser which explains why my Mustang only has 41K miles!

Assuming both of these cars are in good condition (mustang could use paint job, Porsche might need A/C serviced) what are your opinions?

You are asking on a Porsche board which to keep? lol

I'll speak for the minority... keep the Porsche! No empirical reasoning, as I haven't owned a late model Mustang, but I know owning a Porsche will put a long term smile on your face, assuming you had a PPI done and you properly maintain the car.

i dont own a porsche... i say keep the porsche, for weekend enjoyment how can you look anywhere else then a nice convertible autobahn cruiser

If you like exhaust rumble and power, take the money from the 'Stang and buy you a supercharger kit and an exhaust from Speed Force Racing for your car....then you'll have both of those back with all of the other good 944 attributes as well.

I myself owned 2 Mustang 5.0s and if you wanted to make one handle like your Porsche you'd end up spending a good bit and you can make the Porsche handle better still with some upgrades. The Cabriolet is sweet and they are rare....Mustangs are nice but they are a dime a dozen, even modded ones around here (including the 95 with the hood scoop as tall as the windshield...what a maroon). Besides, moments like I had Friday make having the Porsche worthwhile. I pulled out from the bookstore on the road over to the interstate here and came out in the inside lane and from the opposite side of the road came an older 911. We came up beside each other, stared at each other's cars, waved and went opposite directions on the interstate. No race, no puffy chest, just admiration and enjoyment of both of our cars. Virtually never got that in the 'stang, just not really a family of owners type environment since there are so many of them.

Anyway, just my humble $9.51 since I've owned both and if given the choice, there wouldn't be a choice. Even with the higher cost of operation of the Porsche, it's definitely worth it.

I have both a 99 Mustang GT and an 87 944 NA. The 944 is the first foreign car I have ever owned, but will certainly not be the last. After driving the 944 I have learned what a car is supposed to feel like! Great steering feel, brake feel, handling, etc. I especially love the Germanness of the 944. It feels solid. My Mustang has only 25,000 miles on it and it feels loose and sloppy. I can't stand the way the Mustang bounces continously over every little bump in the road-no doubt because of the live axle. But then again, that bulletproof rear axle set up makes for some sweet burnouts!!! I would't dream of trying to do a burnout in the 944, broken parts would probably scatter in every direction! If it is a weekend toy you are after, I would keep the 944. Or better yet sell them both and get a 968! Look at it this way, you can always find a nice used Mustang if you change your mind later. Finding a truly nice 944 is not an easy task and is getting harder all the time.

I was in the same boat not too long ago. I bought my S2 while I had my mustang. I thought about selling the mustang, but the addictive qualities that you bring up are what made me keep it. It is much cheaper and easier to repair than the S2. For the cost of the belts, motor mounts and chain tensioner, you could put a new engine in the mustang.

The S2 will handle much better than the mustang, that is a given, but you can improve the mustang dramatically with some off the shelf parts. Brakes are scary in the mustang, but a m2300k kit will fix that. Stiffen the body with some subframe connectors, if you haven't already and a nice k-member brace and strut tower brace will make a ton of difference.

So my decision came down to this. I don't want to spend the money to make the S2 be a power house, and I didn't want to spend the money to make the mustang a supreme handler.

My opinion, keep them both. If nothing else, you have something to drive when one car is being worked on.
