Default Where to buy caster blocks and tie rod ends?

Yesterday I finished my second ball joint which amazingly enough took me less than 90 minutes - compared to last week's experiment that took me 8 hours.

Next I want to replace the caster blocks (one of them was almost disintegrated) and the tie rod ends.

Any ideas as to the best source for purchase?

I'm going to buy the complete tie rod assemblies from Vertex, they're a little cheaper. But for just the ends paragon is good.

A bit of a hijack here but I have a quick related question. I am about to install 17" 996 twists on my 944 & have been told I should fit 968 caster blocks. Are these any easier/harder to install than the standard ones??

Thanks
Peter

I plan on doing the same thing - but the looks of it they seem to install the same way.

Can anyone chime in on this?

Yup, same install, just a slightly different part. You'll need an alignment afterward.

Does anyone happen to have a part number for the 968 caster blocks and any other bits required for the job?

Thanks again
Peter

951.341.023.01

You can reuse the original bolts - no other parts are needed.

Good Luck!

What are the advantages, for that price it would have been worth it when I rebuilt the ball joints even though mine were in pretty good condition. I thought they were like 400 bucks a peice so I didn't even bother looking.

944 ecology, OK foreign, Ian's Europarts, etc all have used caster blocks for sale. I had to use 924S blocks to fit my Blaszak control arms

I paid about $100USD for a pair of new 968 caster blocks at Weissach.

Are there any advantages in buying the entire assembly instead of just the ends? From what I see the bushings are on the ends while the entire rod is just a straight piece of metal with threads.
