A bit of crazy glue and it will be as good as new.

Lots of sanding and paint.
The rubber separated from ring gear.

That is an unusual failure mode for this component. It appears to have destroyed the pilot nub of the driveshaft as well. Is it possible some of the peripheral tearing happened during dis-assembly?

Doubt it. It's cleanly separated. Unlike the traumatic separation I tried which caused cracking. How the F is one supposed to remove the rear clamp?!

Fuel lines under the rear subframe look rusty. I'd hate to have to drop it again or have the next owner spring a leak. Sooooooo damn I wish hadn't thrown away the fuel hoses I saved for 7 years since the last 944 I scrapped.
Rule save every good old part you can. For as long as you can. You never know when you'll need it.
My buddy tossed doors from a type 2 VW less than 3 years later none can be found when he picks up another type 2 for restoration and, you guessed it didn't have doors.

Just wondering if anyone has tried replacing the rubber damper with a stripped down clutch disk. I

Amazing work, will keep following you! I used to live in Tokyo for almost 8 yand I often go back there, just didn't have the money back then to do that. Give me the desire to do a restoration!

Thanks.
The disk is from a 996 turbo so I'm sure it can hold the torque. What does concern me is if there is sufficient surface area. The disk surface area fits neatly below the securing bolts. Maybe a larger diameter ring with bolts holes welded to the disk would be better.
Interestingly the 944, 930 and 996 turbo all have the same crank bolt pattern, flywheel surface area and overall dimensions. The flywheels have different sensor pickups or non at all. Everyone says the 944 turbo clutch wouldn't fit a non turbo due to the bell housing.

Be careful, this seems like a terrible place on the car to try out some armchair engineering.
The perimeter of this 40+ pound flywheel assembly has a potential surface speed approaching 200 mph and is inches from an occupants feet. Also, the springs of a clutch disc center are not designed to dampen the torsional load cycling of a heavy torque converter at the opposite end of a long and thin drive shaft.
The good news is that the correct replacement parts are still available from Porsche.

Check with my mechanic. Nope. I'm SOL. If the disk extended to the bolt holes it would be fine. So I'm back to eBay. An eBay seller shipped to the wrong address then won't refund my money until he gets the parts back. WTF?! I should have listened to this and other forums.

I love the color combination on your car and enjoyed reading through your thread! Have you considered converting the car to a manual transmission or do you prefer to keep the car as original as possible?

Thanks.
Manual conversion was my first plan but looking at prices I don't think there is much to be gained. If I were keeping it for sure. But in the current market I think leaving it automatic is better.

Flywheel arrived today. Waiting for the rest of the clutch assembly.
