Default OT: when does the new BMW 3-series come out?

hey folks,
anyone know when the 3-series is going to get the face-lift so that it looks like the current 7- and 5-series?

where could i find some pics if they exist?

thanks - now...back to your regular porsche topics!

I believe the new 3 series is schedualed to debut sometime in 2005 and the new M3 sometime in late 2006/early 2007.

Never I wish. Chris Bangle needs to be put out to pasture like Nissan did with Jerry Hirshberger.

But, the change is inevitable.

BTW, it will split into the 3 (4 door) and 4 (2 door) series.

We just purchased a 2001 325i with premium package, sport package, and all the goodies. Grey on grey. Beautiful car. Not sure the new model will look as good.

i think the new 5 and 7 series are ugly, the models around year 2000 were the best looking IMO...

my good friend and '74 bmw 2002 owner recently informed me that bmw is planning to enter the world rally championship. i'd love to see a small, powerful, awd bimmer. i really hope that bmw's entry into wrc actually happens.

ljd-924SC: they'll probably use the 320 E46 if they do... Nice to hear nonetheless. Rally is awesome...!

Yes, he did ruin the new 5 and 7 series. I actually like the E36 gen of 3 series the best out of any BMW. Btw, there was a huge petition going around of people signing to have Chris Bangle fired. I also heard a rumor that maybe they did do something about him? Can anyone else shed some light on this?

Bangle is no longer the head of design at BMW as of a few months ago. I cant remember if he's staying on as a consultant or what. I think he may have gone to GM.... but i cant remember exactly.

mike and mpd:

bangle is no longer the head of design, he's been promoted to head of production (or some similar title). he was not fired. and the worst part is that the guy who actually designed the 5, 7, and Z4 (bangle simply set the policies for those cars) whose name i can't remember, has been appointed to head of design. so nail in the coffin for bmw.

deni:

that's interesting because i've heard they will be basing the car on the smaller 1 and 2-series cars. i would think it would make sense to use a smaller lighter platform just as peugot, citroen, and ford do.

ljd-924SC: you're right, I was basing that on conjecture, I forgot the "1er" and "2er" series cars were coming out (later). Makes sense.
the fog is clearing now... I hope they give Subaru some good competition.
