Default What is this hole in the bottom of steering rack?

I'm rebuilding power-steering rack on 924S and noticed a threaded hole with some sort of plastic fitting in it. The plastic seems to have been split and perhaps there is something missing? It's not connected to the oil side and it's not the hole for plastic hose running between bellows, although it's right next to it. Can I put a filter in there?

that hole is for a special tool (a modified bolt) to lock the steering rack in the centered position so you can do an alignment.
the rack gear inside the housing has a dimple in the bottom of it - the special bolt tool has a pointy cone end to engage the dimple.

Good info. Is it normally supposed to be plugged shut or should air be able to move through it?

I'd think you'd want it capped/plugged to keep any grit out. On the manual racks, we usually put a grease fitting in there to ease lubrication of the rack...

Kasper, there is a cap that screws into that hole to keep dirt out. You definitely want it plugged. Part #477 419 115
