Default Tighten the Steering Column

Hi,
I've searched the forum for tips on tightening up the bolts that hold the steering column without luck.

My steering column shifts a bit depending on the steering lock position. It is most noticeable on the key cylinder. The cylinder rubber beauty ring keeps popping off.

How does one tighten the bolts to stop the column from moving?

You're probably ahead of the game if they're already loose.
Either use a dremel or a chisel and cut a slot in the bolt heads, then remove them and replace with real bolts or cap screws.

Default Steering column

After looking at the multiple melted wires in my wiring harness today, I have to remove two conical headed bolts that are screwed into two square nuts that appear to be welded to the inside of the metal binacle space. I presume these are factory “twist off” bolts since they have no slot and are smooth. I also presume these are the same two bolts that hold the steering column support bracket in place. Am I correct about this? In any case it seems about time to break out the Dremel. Any idea as to the torque required to break. These bolts free? TIA

I just drilled the domed head off those bolt heads, the rest of the threaded part just twists out. You can then use a regular bolt in its place

Drill sounds like a good idea! Especially a left hand one might work wonders.
Yours might already be a little loose!
I always used a hammer and a not-too-sharp chisel...
It can be a little tough to get a 'bite' on the conical remains of the head, but once you can get it started, they back out with a few blows.
But if you deform the base of the head. It'll act like a lock washer...
