So... what do we do about windshields now?
So I confirmed something I read on here a while back. Both the windshield and (more importantly to me) the seal that goes around it are NLA. I went to several auto glass shops hunting for someone who would reseal my windshield and asking if they wanted to tackle the rear hatch delamination. I got a resounding "hell no" on both. I wasn't expecting much on the hatch, but not only can none of the shops get the seal, they could also not get windshields. And all of them said they won't touch a windshield unless they can source a replacement. Just in case they break it. And I need a new seal. Anyone got any leads on some alt route to get the seals? Here is my problem:
I've spent the last 5 years thinking it was my sunroof that leaked, but when I put in the Saratoga top I checked it thoroughly. It's all straight. I even tested the drains. They are clear and dumped out by the wheels. So I started investigating the failing seal. That's a hole right through the body! Now I know where I'm leaking from! It looks to me like that was a problem area in the past, and when the car was resprayed they either just painted over it, or tried some kind of fix that failed. I think that is just a nest of rust right there they just painted over! So if I can't get the seals, and I know from the hatch discussions silicone is a bad idea, any suggestions on how I fill in that hole, reseal the area, and get the seal to stick back down? Window weld? Never used it, would that work?

Are you talking about 477-898-011-A being NLA? Wow.... that sucks.

The topside rubber piece is not a seal. It is a trim that installs into a perimeter glass frame that is adhered to the body. The trim pictured appears to be a generic material often used by glass shops when the frame is not available. The glass in that case is glued directly to the body, like most conventional windshields, and the top trim is bedded into the adhesive squeeze out. Because the generic trim is not formed to the windshield shape, the corners usually bulge and allow water to be retained in any recess below.

I had to call around a few places when I got a new windshield last year. Several places just said no, but eventually, one of them called a Porsche dealer and was able to get one. It was far more expensive than a typical aftermarket one (~$1200, I think), but the fit is great as you'd expect. I'd have probably been fine with the more typical $500-600 windshield replacements most shops can do, but I didn't have any options but to buy directly from Porsche.

I ordered an oem windshield and seals from Porsche Marin in October 2022.
The local auto glass shop that I am using said that Fuyao was also in available, but I went with OEM.
Note that the Porsche dealers that have online stores won’t ship them - you will have to pick up windshields at the dealer.

The three shops I went to, and the two I called all said they simply couldn't get them. But none checked beyond their computer. It's good to know the windshield are still available directly from Porsche. Still not sure what to do about the trim/seal thing? For those that got new windows, what did they do for you? What do you have around your window? Are my shops just pulling the "we don't' want to deal with that old car" thing I got from so many others? I find a lot of shops hear Porsche, and nope out.

Agreed. I was able to buy a Cabrio windshield (!) for Porsche of Peoria last summer. $900 with embedded antenna but without the green tint. As mentioned above, the "seal;" is not a seal. It is a generic trim piece that presses (painfully for your thumb) into a track that is part of the windshield assembly.

Ok, so the windshields are still available from Porsche. And even the "seal", the RTV cord, is still available, even if some sites say it's NLA. But I still need that trim piece that's not a seal. Unless I can somehow get mine to stick back down and get some sealing stuff in there for the hole under that trim. I can also feel some air movement around the A-pillar at the windshield on the driver's side. Noticed that on my last trip. So I'm not sealing good all the way around it seems.
It was the windshields and that trim the shops told me they couldn't get. I called it a seal, but he said in all his systems from all his suppliers those parts were "red". Red meaning NLA. His people used to have windshields, seals, and trim. But they can't get them anymore. But I know none tried Porsche.
The correct resolution to this tread at this time is the aftermarket suppliers (at least all used around here) no longer make these parts for these cars. And you'll need to source them from Porsche. You guys are saying that trim is generic universal? Shouldn't the windows install guys know this? Have I just got a bunch of idiots around me?
My next step is to check with the shop an hour+ away. I used them to do some work on an old Expedition I had, and they went and rigged up some fixes as those are famous for rusting out around the window. (And leaking on the computers). If that installer is still there, I know he's willing to "give it the old college try" instead of saying "I can't get all the stuff I normally get to do this, so go away"

Thanks for this info! With this, I should be able to go to someone who wants my money, and get them to do what I need done! I was given some bad info that these were all NLA, from people whom I guess are not used to working on Porsches or other more "rare" cars, and none even mentioned the dealer. I had just assumed they were tied into those systems as well. They do this for a living. You'd think they would know. And not just tell me these parts are NLA. And it wasn't just one! I drove to 3 so they could look at the car, and called two others! All completely different auto glass shops! Maybe I should have called an autobody shop!

My path was to contact Safelite, who had a windshield with radio antenna for the late cars. It’s been leak free for ten years.
I believe it was $450 installed at the time.

Safelite in my area can get the original glass with antenna from Porsche but, wants $1900. They also quoted me for aftermarket without antenna for around $400. What do those who have chosen the cheaper route use for a radio antenna?
